The Government has made the expansion of the garden town programme it’s first announcement of 2017.

The programme now supplements the 7 locations already identified (Bicester, Basingstoke, Didcot, Otterpool Park, Ebbsfleet, Aylesbury, North Essex and North Northants) with three new garden towns (Aylesbury, Taunton, Harlow & Gilston). These are each expected to deliver over 10,000 new homes through strategic growth.

In addition, 14 new garden villages with smaller proposals of between 1,500 and 10,000 new homes have been selected for support by DCLG. The locations identified are:

  •     Long Marston in Stratford-on-Avon
  •     Oxfordshire Cotswold in West Oxfordshire
  •     Deenethorpe in East Northants
  •     Culm in Mid Devon
  •     Welborne near Fareham in Hampshire
  •     West Carclaze in Cornwall
  •     Dunton Hills near Brentwood, Essex
  •     Spitalgate Heath in South Kesteven, Lincolnshire
  •     Halsnead in Knowsley, Merseyside
  •     Longcross in Runnymede and Surrey Heath
  •     Bailrigg in Lancaster
  •     Infinity Garden Village in South Derbyshire and Derby City area
  •     St Cuthberts near Carlisle City, Cumbria
  •     North Cheshire in Cheshire East

DCLG has also made an additional £1 million available for further development of other garden village proposals, and may run a further call for expressions of interest in 2017 for other places with proposals for new garden villages.

Hyas Associates have a strong active awareness and involvement across several of the schemes, with team members closely involved in the evolution of the programme and it’s implementation to date. We have also supported Local Authorities to prepare successful bids into this and other similar programmes, and are closely involved in supporting a number of places to drive projects forward through planning and into delivery.
