TCPA paper Hyas are glad to have been able to support the Town & Country Planning Association (TCPA) in the preparation of a briefing paper “Unlocking the potential of large scale new communities” which takes stock of how new communities are being delivered under current Government policy, and the barriers and challenges faced by many local authorities and their delivery partners to achieve their high ambitions for sustainable growth.

The short briefing paper highlights some of the key challenges surrounding the current debate on large-scale development, and sets out some key actions that local and national government could take to unlock the opportunities it offers. The paper focuses on distilling the TCPA’s recent learning on the barriers to delivering large-scale growth, particularly lessons that have emerged over the last decade. Drawing on the lessons of the New Towns programme, it also offers recommendations on the best form of delivery vehicle to use, and on how we might best go about identifying need and location.

Hyas also presented and shared our thoughts and learning at an online webinar to launch the publication.
